Fine mezzotint portrait of Cloudesley Shovell by John Faber after Michael Dahl. The celebrated English admiral stands three-quarter length in armour leaning upon a canon.
Admiral of the Fleet Sir Cloudesley Shovell (1650 - 1707) rose through the ranks of the navy and became a popular British hero after fighting in many of the important battles of the late 17th and early 18th centuries. His celebrated career came to an end in a disastrous shipwreck in the Isles of Scilly. He also served as MP for Rochester, Kent from 1695 until his death.
This mezzotint is in a fine state of conservation and is housed in a quality ebonised frame with museum quality mount.
